Water
We have mains water with taps dotted around the site. It is not drinking quality due to how it is distributed. It is turned off and on around the time that the clocks change.
You must leave one tap from each pair free for handwashing at all times, and must not leave hoses attached to the tap when they are not in use.
It costs 94p an hour to run the average garden hose. We are privileged to have unrestricted access to mains water - not all sites do - but will only retain this privilege if we use water responsibly. This means:
not watering during the day, when most of the water evaporates
watering under the plant foliage, not sprinkling on top of it
stopping leaks at the tap or along the hose and definitely not leaving your hose attached and on at the tap but off at your plot - we regularly find plots and tap areas flooded
not leaving the tap running unattended to wash tools or vegetables
not letting children play with the taps
setting up a water butt and using it wherever possible
